Industry background
One of the leading EV battery pack manufacturers in Pune was facing significant challenges in dispensing a two-part 400ml cartridge on the cell holders. The cell holder had intricate shapes, making it extremely difficult to dispense the adhesive from the cartridge using a hand operated pneumatic dispenser. It was extremely time draining and laborious. The manufacturer was urgently looking for better ways to dispense the adhesive.
Understanding the Problem
The customer was earlier using a hand-operated pneumatic dispenser to apply adhesive from a 400ml side-by-side cartridge. Manual dispensing had many challenges.
The repetitive nature of the task resulted in operator fatigue, poor efficiency, and frequent errors. As a result, operators often resorted to mixing and applying the adhesive manually, which was labor-intensive and prone to human error, leading to longer process times, inconsistent application, material waste, poor aesthetics, and compromised product reliability.
ADoST Solution
To resolve the inefficiencies of manual dispensing, the ADoST application team proposed testing the ADoST CDS Pro, an advanced semi-automatic two-component dispensing system designed and developed to apply a fixed volume of adhesive in a high-speed production line without having to hold the dispenser manually.
The ADoST application team also suggested the ADoST Pen with an extension tube, which provides easy access to hard-to-reach areas, delivering precise performance where standard nozzles fall short. Its ergonomic design ensures comfortable, prolonged use without fatigue.
Customer Experience
During trial runs, the customer observed that the ADoST CDS Pro system delivered a highly accurate 0.30-gram shot of adhesive, applied in a consistent circular pattern to the inner surface of the battery cell holder. The introduction of the ADoST Pen with its extension tube significantly improved access to confined spaces, ensuring uniform adhesive coverage.
The system’s integrated static mixer guaranteed optimal mixing of the two adhesive components, eliminating human error and manual inconsistencies.
Additionally, the auto-purge feature, controlled through software, streamlined the dispensing process, enhancing efficiency while reducing adhesive wastage by approximately 20%. This also extended the lifespan of the mixer, further decreasing operational costs.
Conclusion
Since its implementation, the ADoST CDS Pro has operated seamlessly for several months, enabling the customer to achieve significant improvements in production efficiency, product quality, and worker morale.
Based on its success, the customer has decided to deploy two additional ADoST CDS Pro systems at their other manufacturing facility in India, further validating the system’s effectiveness in streamlining complex adhesive dispensing operations.
